Mental Health Law Practitioner (FTC)

We are currently recruiting for a Mental Health Law Practitioner to support in ensuring the legal requirements of the Mental Health Act 1983 and the Mental Capacity Act 2005.

This role is full time, 40 hours per week (Monday to Friday 9am to 17:30pm) and will be located onsite at Cygnet Salford Lodge. It is a 14‑month fixed‑term contract.

Responsibilities

• Ensure that all procedures relative to the Mental Health Act and associated legislation are adhered to.
• Ensure the legal detention of patients.
• Maintain adequate records for detained patients and ensure their safe storage.
• Receive section papers during working hours.
• Arrange correction of errors relating to the detention of patients to meet all legal requirements.
• Ensure patients and their nearest relatives are aware of individual rights and the power of detention in force, and assist as required with exercising these rights.
• Maintain an up‑to‑date list of mental health solicitors and ensure patients are represented at hearings or appeals where possible or appropriate.
• Attend ward rounds, organise and attend Care Programme Approach meetings (CPA) and take minutes and provide reports.

Qualifications

• Previous administration experience including report preparation, organising meetings, and liaising with customers/clients.
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Educated to GCSE level (or equivalent) with qualifications in English and Maths.
• Exceptional organisational skills.
• Experience of working in a healthcare environment alongside medical practitioners is desirable.
• Knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983 (MHA 1983) is desirable.
• Knowledge of compliance and auditing systems required by regulatory bodies (CQC) is desirable.
