Brief
M&E Technician needed for a large, well-known Facilities Management organisation based in Lewisham who are looking to employ an experienced and well-rounded M&E Technician that takes pride in their work.
The successful candidate must have a relevant qualification – NCQ Level 3 / Level 3 diploma and hold a technical certificate, advanced apprenticeship, or older qualifications such as C&G part 2/ part B etc. and have a keen interest in M&E Engineering. If you have commercial experience in a hospital environment that would be a plus!
This is very much a hands on technical role requiring strong electrical & mechanical competence and a solid understanding of mechanical building services within a healthcare environment. The postholder will carry out planned and reactive maintenance, fault finding, repairs, and minor installation works on a wide range of hospital engineering systems, ensuring compliance, safety, and continuity of critical services

What the role entails:
Some of the main duties of the M&E Technician will include:
- Apply relevant trade skills to any allocated jobs as directed by the Manager.
- Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on electrical systems, including emergency lighting, smoke vents, medical electrical systems (IPS/UPS, bedhead services, alarms), distribution boards, final circuits, and HVAC control components.
- Support mechanical maintenance activities where required, including AHUs, fan coil units, pumps, valves, and general HVAC plant.
- Respond promptly to plant breakdowns, ensuring critical hospital services remain operational.
- Undertake fault finding, testing, inspection, and repairs on electrical systems in accordance with BS 7671 and HTM requirements.
- Carry out minor installation, refurbishment, and upgrade works across the site.
- Maintain and repair HVAC systems, pumps, motors, actuators, and associated control equipment.
- Assist with the maintenance of medical gas alarms, nurse call systems, and other clinical engineering interfaces where required.
- Prepare plant and equipment for statutory inspections (e.g., pressure vessels, LV systems) and complete remedial works as necessary.
- Ensure all work is carried out safely, following company policies, risk assessments, safe systems of work, and relevant HTMs.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities using the CAFM system.
- Participate in statutory testing programmes including emergency lighting, fire safety systems, and electrical inspection & testing.
- To carry out Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) as required
- Work independently or as part of a team to deliver maintenance and project works across the hospital.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, clinical staff, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Support the integration of electrical and mechanical maintenance functions to ensure seamless service delivery.
What experience you need to be the successful M&E Technician:
- Experienced and skilled in Electrical maintenance
- Competent with electrical maintenance related to emergency systems and controls.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team delivering safe, compliant service in a hospital environment.
- Comfortable participating in on-call duties and emergency response.
- Committed to maintaining accurate records and following safe working systems, risk assessments, and company procedures.
