Job Summary
The Field Service & PDI Engineer is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and support of multifunctional print devices, IT-connected office equipment, and related technology solutions. The role combines field-based copier engineering, IT support skills, and Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) responsibilities to ensure equipment is prepared, configured, and deployed to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities
Field Service Engineering
– Install, service, maintain, and repair multifunctional printers, photocopiers, scanners, and associated office technology.
– Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical, software, and connectivity faults.
– Respond to customer service calls within agreed service level agreements (SLAs).
– Complete preventative maintenance visits to maximise equipment reliability and customer satisfaction.
– Accurately record service activity, parts usage, and customer interactions using company systems.
– Provide technical advice and user guidance to customers where required.
IT & Network Support
– Configure devices for network environments including TCP/IP, print drivers, scan-to-email, cloud services, and document management solutions.
– Troubleshoot network connectivity issues relating to printers and MFDs.
– Support integration with Microsoft 365, Active Directory, network folders, and secure print solutions.
– Configure and maintain firmware updates and software applications associated with managed print services.
– Liaise with customer IT departments and internal technical teams to resolve complex issues.
Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI)
– Conduct full pre-delivery inspections on all equipment prior to customer installation.
– Build, configure, test, and quality-check devices to ensure readiness for deployment.
– Install firmware, software, network settings, and customer-specific configurations.
– Prepare delivery documentation and equipment records.
– Ensure all assets, accessories, and consumables are correctly allocated and packaged.
Operational Support
– Assist with equipment refurbishment, upgrades, and reconditioning projects.
– Support stock control and parts management activities.
– Assist in product demonstrations and technical evaluations when required.
– Provide technical support to colleagues and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Essential
– Previous experience as a photocopier, printer, or field service engineer.
– Good understanding of networking principles including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and Wi-Fi networking.
– Experience configuring multifunctional devices in networked environments.
– Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
– Excellent customer service and communication skills.
– Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
– Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
– Experience with managed print solutions.
– Knowledge of Microsoft 365 environments.
– Experience with document management software.
– Manufacturer accreditations (e.g. Ricoh, Sharp, Konica Minolta, Canon, Kyocera, Xerox, HP or Epson).
